1. Andrew Fisher (1862-1928)

Andrew Fisher was born in Crosshouse, Ayrshire, Scotland and migrated to Australia in 1885. He settled in the Gympie region and worked as a miner before becoming involved in politics. Fisher served as the Prime Minister of Australia three times (1908-1909, 1910-1913, 1914-1915) and made significant contributions to the development of the nation.

2. James Nash (1834-1913)

James Nash was an explorer and prospector who discovered gold in Gympie in 1867. This discovery led to the establishment of the Gympie gold rush, which attracted thousands of prospectors to the region. Nash's find had a profound impact on the development of Gympie and Queensland's economy.

3. Anna Meares (born 1983)

Anna Meares is a retired professional cyclist who was born in Blackwater, Queensland and grew up in the Gympie region. She competed in track cycling events and won multiple Olympic medals throughout her career, including a gold medal in the 500m time trial at the 2012 London Olympics. Meares is regarded as one of Australia's greatest track cyclists.

4. Albert H. Devanny (1895-1976)

Albert H. Devanny was an Australian journalist and author born in Gympie. He worked for various newspapers, including the Sunday Mail and the Townsville Bulletin, and gained recognition for his social commentary and satirical columns. Devanny's writings depicted life in regional Australia and tackled societal issues of the time.

5. Sir Matthew Nathan (1862-1939)

Sir Matthew Nathan was a British soldier and colonial administrator who served as the Governor of Queensland from 1920 to 1925. He played a significant role in the development of the Gympie region during his tenure and was involved in various infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Mary Valley railway line.

6. May Hollinworth (1911-2001)

May Hollinworth was an Australian painter and art teacher born in Gympie. She studied at the Queensland Technical College and later became a prominent figure in the Australian art scene. Hollinworth's work focused on landscapes and she exhibited extensively throughout her career, receiving critical acclaim for her unique artistic style.

7. Casey Stoner (born 1985)

Casey Stoner is a professional motorcycle racer born in Southport, Queensland. He grew up in the Gympie region and began racing at a young age. Stoner went on to have a successful career in MotoGP, winning the world championship in 2007 and 2011. He is considered one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time.

8. Julie Goodwin (born 1970)

Julie Goodwin is an Australian cook and television personality who won the inaugural season of MasterChef Australia in 2009. She was born in Gosford, New South Wales but currently resides in the Gympie region. Goodwin has since published several successful cookbooks and hosted her own cooking shows.

9. William Alford (1862-1961)

William Alford was an Australian politician and Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. He represented the electorate of Gympie from 1904 to 1932. Alford was highly regarded for his commitment to public service and had a significant impact on the Gympie region through his contributions to education and infrastructure development.
