Distinguished and Famous people from Gympie Region
🏛️ Andrew Fisher
Gympie was an important early base for Andrew Fisher, the Scottish-born miner who became Australia’s prime minister three times. He worked in the district’s mining community, led local labour organisations and entered Queensland parliament as the member for Gympie. Later, as a federal leader, he oversaw measures including the Commonwealth Bank and maternity allowances. The regional connection is the working and political community through which he rose. It places the future prime minister among the miners and organisers of a Queensland gold town.
